OVERVIEW

Nyaya Health is a non-governmental organization working with communities in Nepal and with the Nepali Ministry of Health to develop healthcare services in a poor, rural region in the district of Achham. Nyaya is currently seeking applications for the position of Hospital Administrator at Bayalpata Hospital, which is a full-service, free-care hospital that Nyaya runs in the Achham district of Nepal. Bayalpata Hospital serves an area over 250,000 people, treats over 2,000 patients per month, and provides 24-hour inpatient and labor & delivery services.  The Hospital Administrator will be responsible for overseeing all administrative and managerial aspects of the Hospital’s business.

JOB DESCRIPTION

As the Hospital Administrator, s/he will work primarily with the Nepal-based staff, overseeing programs and aspects of the daily functioning of the Hospital. S/he will interact with community members and the local governmental and non-governmental bodies to establish a strong working relationship with all stakeholders in Nyaya’s work.

The Hospital Administrator will work closely with the Medical Director and the Executive Director of Nyaya Health to ensure smooth operation of all of Nyaya’s services in Achham. The Hospital Administrator will directly supervise the Accountant and the Data and Supply Aide. Specific responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

1. Bayalpata Hospital operations and logistics, including human resource and personnel management
2. Liaising with local partners, including national and regional Nepali government, other NGOs, and community and regional stakeholders
3. Supply chain management, including medical and non-medical equipment procurement
4. Oversight of regular monitoring and evaluation of data documentation as required by the Ministry of Health of Nepal
5. Liaising with US-based Nyaya team, including regular updates of work in Nepal and attendance of Board conference calls
6. Oversight of short-term volunteers and interns at Bayalpata Hospital

    APPLICANT INFORMATION

    Qualifications

    A competitive applicant for the Hospital Administrator position would include anyone with at least a Master’s degree, preferably related to hospital management and/or business administration. Previous experience in overseeing operations in a healthcare setting, and familiarity with governmental and non-governmental hospital work in Nepal is preferred. The applicant should be skilled in communication, community organization, personnel management, financial oversight and working in a multidisciplinary and multicultural team to ensure the highest quality of day-to-day operations for Nyaya Health.
    The applicant must have a particular interest in, and commitment to, social justice, health care for poor and marginalized populations, and health service delivery in rural Nepal. Previous work experience in medical contexts is preferred but not required. Given the nature of the job, Nepali language skills are required. Familiarity with Nepal Government’s rules and regulations overseeing NGO work are not required but will help the applicant’s candidacy.

    Financial considerations and remuneration

    Financial compensation will be discussed on an applicant-by-applicant basis, contingent upon educational background and previous work history. All applicants, regardless of background, are encouraged to apply.

    Timeline

    Applications will be accepted from July 1st, 2010 and will be considered on a rolling basis until the position has been filled. The applicant should expect to start working no later than August, 2010, although earlier start dates are acceptable and preferred. Commitments of a minimum of one year are expected, but more are preferred.
